Chapter One

The world beneath his palms was sharp and painful and unforgiving.


Anther didn’t have the strength to hold back his screams as they broke free from behind clenched teeth; his head tossed back, jaw unhinged beneath the power of his voice that was torn from him, as if in some way to release the agony that filled him; noxious smoke billowing out of his lungs in guttural cries that were so torn, so twisted in agony that they no longer sounded human.


His screams echoed off the cold flagstone floor, unfelt beneath him even when his weight, and the weight of the chains bound tight around his wrists suspended him between the embrace of stone and the pain that is alive aside him; Anther’s body thrashing thoughtlessly to free himself from a torment like none he has ever felt before.
